DUSHANBE, November 10, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan has topped CIS states in terms of consumer price index, according to the CIC Interstate Committee for Statistics.

Compared to January-September 2007 the index of consumer prices in Tajikistan amounted to 130.8 percent.  In Tajikistan, the consumer prices rose 30.8 percent in the year to November 1,2 008 and an average monthly increase rate amounted to 1.3 percent. 

The lowest consumer price index has been reported in Armenia – 109.5 percent.  Armenia is followed by Moldova (114.2 percent), Russia (114.2 percent) and Belarus (114.9 percent). 

Compared to January-September 2007, the index of consume prices in Kazakhstan amounted to 119.2 percent, Azerbaijan – 121.5 percent, and Kyrgyzstan – 126.8 percent.

The CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics does not have consumer price indices for Georgia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in its report.  

Compared to January-September 2007 an average consumer price index within the Commonwealth of Independent States has amounted to 117 percent.

We will recall that the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) said that in Tajikistan, inflation for January-September 2008 had stood at 12.7 percent.  

According to Tajik central bank, a monthly inflation rate in consumer’s sector over the report period has amounted to 1.41 percent.  Prices of food products rose 14.5 percent in ten months to November 1, 2008.  Prices of nonfoods and paid service rendered to the population have risen over the report period 4.4 percent and 21.2 percent respectively.
