DUSHANBE, November 13, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Ukrainian company, Ukrvazhmash Ltd, will construct two small hydroelectric power plants (HPP) in Tajikistan, Asia-plus has learned at the Ministry of Energy and Transport (MoET).  

The source at a MoET said the ministry and Ukrvazhmash Ltd had signed an agreement on construction of a 5MW power plant in Khatlon’s Danghara district and a 50MW Sarvoz HPP on the Kofarnihon River.

“The MoET has pledged to provide Ukrvazhmash Ltd with raw data necessary for conducting feasibility study within a month,” the source said.

The Ukrainian company is to prepare financing documents by January 1, 2009 and found the constructing company by March 1, 2009.  

In the meantime, New Europe (NE) reported yesterday Ukrvazhmash Ltd has expressed its readiness to implement a number of projects in Tajikistan.  The company’s intentions were confirmed in a memorandum of cooperation between the two countries.  The Ukrainian company had expressed readiness to implement projects to construct small, medium and large hydroelectric power stations, as well as reconstruct the existing hydropower facilities in Tajikistan.  Moreover, Ukrvazhmash will consider the issue of building new and reconstructing the existing thermal power stations on the basis of using solid fuel of prospective coal fields in Tajikistan, as well as building a new cement plant.

Ukrvazhmash Ltd is a privately owned enterprise of Ukrainian national foreign economic corporation, Vazhmashimpex, and of foreign daughter enterprise Noris – Ukraine.
