DUSHANBE, November 17, 2008, Asia-Plus – Over the first ten months of this year, migrant workers have remitted 30.577 million US dollars to banks in Gorno Badakhshan, which is more than 13 million dollars more than in the same period of 2007, according to Nasriddin Nasriddinov, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Khorog.

“Over the report period, the labor migrants have remitted some US$15.79 million to Agroinvestbonk’s branches in the region, more than US$8.465 million to Amonatbonk’s (Tajik savings bank) branches, more than US$3.468 million to Orienbonk’s branches, and US$1.681 million to Tojiksodirobonk’s (TSB) branches,” Nasriddinov said, noting that the migrant workers from Gorno Badakhshan primarily travel to the Russian Federation.         

            According to Badakhshonkhorijakor (GBAO state-controlled external migration company), more than 23,000 residents of the region have traveled to Russia in search of seasonal work.
