KHUJAND, December 10, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Two residents of Khujand have been detained on suspicion of having robbed the Khujand-based Tajik State University of Law, Business and Politics and killing its guard.

The source at the Sughd police directorate said that the preliminary investigation had established that the crime had been committed by the 27-year-old Hotam Mahmoudov and the 25-year-old Temour Tojoboyev in association with a certain Dilshod.

“Mahmoudov and Tojoboyev have already been detained and confessed to the crime and local police are currently taking measures to detain Dilshod,” the source said, noting that an investigation is under way.

As it had been reported earlier, unidentified men broke into the university’s building on the night of November 16-17.  The assailants struck the guard, 69-year-old Aliboy Sobirov, over the head with a heavy object and seized 28,551 somoni from the university’s cash office.  The guard died of the wound received on the spot.
