DUSHANBE, December 23, 2008, Asia-Plus — The winter crops sowing campaign has been completed in Tajikistan, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

The source at a MoA says farmers have planted winter crops an area of totaling 220,082 hectares to this date, which is 88.9 percent of the target determined at 247,653 hectares.  “It is 110,176 hectares more compared to 2007,” the source said, adding that farmers will continue the campaign if it gets warmer.

This year, 206,356 hectares, including 121,500 hectares of irrigated lands, have been sown with winter wheat.  According to the source, they plan to have winter wheat yields of 3.5-4.0 tons per one hectare.
