Public debt of Republic of Kazakhstan has totaled KZT 1 trillion 330 billion on January 1, 2009, said Kazakh Finance Minister Bolat Zhamishev.

“Public debt of Kazakhstan amounted to KZT 1 trillion 330 billion on January 1, 2009. It has increased by 412 KZT billion in comparison with 2008,” said Bolot Zhamishev.

External debt amounted to KZT 820 billion, or 80.8 % of public debt. In 2008 it has increased by KZT 308 billion due to investment of state issue securities worth 465 KZT billion and repaid only 158 KZT billion.

“External debt amounted to KZT 195 billion, or 19 % of the government debt. Total government debt amounts to KZT 1 trillion and 15 billion,” said Finance Minister.
