DUSHANBE, March 7, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first two months of this year, officers from the Drug Control Agency have seized 98.675 kilograms of drugs, which is 4.5 times more than in the same period of last year, according to the DCA press service.
A totaled included 29.754 kilograms of heroin, 12.846 kilograms of raw opium and 56.075 kilograms of the cannabis group drugs.
Over the report period, the counternarcotics agency has instituted 22 criminal proceedings against 24 persons on drug charges. The cases have already moved to courts.
One operation carried out by the DCA officers in cooperation with border guards led to the seizure of 65.324 kilograms of narcotic drug. An operation carried out by drug control officers jointly with Kyrgyz law enforcement agencies led to the interception of 6.422 kilograms of heroin.
Over the same two-month period, officers from the Tajik counternarcotics agency have carried out six operations in cooperation with Afghan police officers. The operations resulted in the seizure of 52.35 kilograms of narcotic drug, the press service said.
