Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the 10th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

In his speech, the head of state said the ECO”s main task was to ensure the political stability in the region via economic cooperation. In this respect, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that further development, improvement and diversification of energy and transportation infrastructure are the strategic area of partnership.

The Turkmen leader emphasized the need to ensure comprehensive security of energy routes and called for a broad international dialogue on the issue of safe transit of energy resources to the world markets. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited representatives of the ECO member-states to take part in a high level international conference on the problem of reliability and stability of energy supplies to be held next month in Ashgabat.

The president also underlined the need to enhance efforts to implement transport-communication projects opening great prospects for cooperation with other states in Eurasia.

The president also noted the importance of constructive cooperation between ECO member-states within the framework of international organizations, first of all the UN, including in the sphere of preventive diplomacy, post-conflict reconstruction of economic and social infrastructure. He cited Turkmenistan”s role in reconstruction of Afghanistan.

“We will continue providing comprehensive assistance and support to the government and people of Afghanistan to mitigate negative effects of wars and conflicts that Afghanistan has experienced over the last twenty years,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
