National Bank: Foreign debt of Kazakhstan increased by 11.2% in 2008

Kazakhstan”s gross foreign debt amounted to US$ 107.812.2 billion by the end of 2008 in contrast to US$ 96.914.3 billion on January, 2008, the National Bank press service reported.

Short-term debt decreased during the period to US$ 10.637.1 billion from US$ 11.958.9 billion. Long-term debt, however, increased amounting to US$ 97.175.7 billion from US$ 84.955.4 billion.

National foreign debt amounted to 2%, and private sector debt to 98% by December 2008 (2.2% and 97.8% respectively on January 2008). This amounted to US$ 2.167 trillion and US$ 105 trillion respectively.

Debt liability of the banking sector of Kazakhstan fell to US$ 39.220 from US$ 45.946.2 billion, fixed liabilities to US$ 36.136.3 billion from US$ 39.843.4 billion.
