DUSHANBE, April 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Two cooperation documents regulating relations between Tajikistan and Italy were singed in Dushanbe on Thursday.

Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi today held talks with visiting Italian Senator and Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Alfredo Mantika today met with Tajik Foreign Minister Harokhon Zarifi.  The two discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Italy.

Zarifi and Mantika inked a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Italy on economic, industrial and technical cooperation as well as a protocol of cooperation between MFAs of the two countries.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Italian official said that Italy and Tajikistan were currently working on an agreement for protection of investments “that is very important for Italian business.”  Mr. Mantika noted that Italian specialists had participated in construction of the Palace of Nation, the Ismaili center and a number of other facilities in Dushanbe.  He noted that his country would continue cooperation with Tajikistan in that direction in the future as well.
