DUSHANBE, May 21, 2009, Asia-Plus — The new British Ambassador, Mr. Trevor Moore, has begun introductory calls outside Dushanbe, according to press release issued by the British Embassy on May 21 in Dushanbe.

He had meetings in Shahrinav and Tursunzoda districts on April 14, 2009. During his visit the Ambassador was accompanied by a team from the Embassy as well as correspondents of regional Regar TV.

The Ambassador’s aim for the tour was to introduce himself to the above-mentioned regions, as well as to familiarize himself with the progress of Embassy-funded projects which are being implemented within these regions.

In Shahrinav district, the Ambassador met the Chairman of Shahrinav district, Mr. Rahmatullo Pulodov. During this visit the Chairman of Shahrinav briefed him on the region’s history and recent developments there.

Following his meeting with Mr. Pulodov, the Ambassador visited Shahrinav Boarding School, where there is an Embassy-funded ongoing project to provide the schoolchildren with skills to help them become useful members of society.  Both the Embassy and the Shahrinav Authority Administration observed the progress being made on the project so far.

During the visit to Tursunzoda district Trevor Moore met with the Chairman of Tursunzoda City Council, Mr. Barakatullo Ahmadov, who also briefed the British Ambassador about developments in the region.

The British Ambassador then visited the country’s main industrial complex, the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), and learnt the history of the plant. TALCO has been doing a lot towards the development of the region by renovating and constructing new buildings.

The Ambassador’s day ended with a visit to the regional Regar TV Station, where he was shown the work of the TV Station and the results of a project which was supported by the British Embassy in Dushanbe. This provided equipment in 2008, which enabled TV Regar to improve the quality of its TV programs. The Station has created new TV programs, highlighting issues of social, economic and political interest to Hissor and Shahrinav.
