KHOROG, May 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — Traffic on main highways in Gorno Badakhshan that were closed yesterday for traffic following torrential rain and resulting mudflows has resumed today morning.  According to Pomirnaqliyot (GBAO state transportation enterprise).

The source at Pomirnaqliyot says the roads were cleared of slurry yesterday evening and movement of traffic on the roads from Khorog to Dushanbe, Ishkashim and Murgab resumed.

We will recall that torrential rain on the night of March 19-20 caused a number of mudslides in the Shugnan district that blocked in several places the roads Khorog-Dushanbe, Khorog-Ishkashim and Khorog-Osh were closed for traffic.  Besides, snowfalls hit the Kutezak area on the highway from Khorog to the Kyrgyz city of Osh and Kashgar in China.

No damage or injured was reported, according to the GBAO emergency management agency.
