DUSHANBE, May 22, 2009, Asia-Plus — In response to Tajik government’s appeal for urgent assistance to disaster-hit districts, Uzbekistan has decided to provide humanitarian aid to Tajikistan, according to the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe.

Uzbekistan will send humanitarian aid, totaling 1,400 tons, to Tajikistan by rail within the next few days.  The assistance includes foodstuffs, tents and building materials (cement, window glass, slates) and other relief supplies, the source said.
