OSCE Centre in Astana and Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan will hold seminar on May 26-27, 2009 in Almaty, OSCE press centre reported.

The theme of this seminar is “Confidence- and Security-Building Measures (CSBMs) 10 Years after the Vienna Document 1999: Challenges and New Approaches in Central Asia and the Caucasus”.

The aim is to review the implementation of CSBMs given recent developments, and to promote enhanced military co-operation between OSCE participating States in Central Asia and the Caucasus.

The seminar will bring together up to 40 participants and feature panel discussions with military and academic experts from each country in the Central Asia and Caucasus regions.

The most important topics for discussion will be the rationale of the Vienna Document 1999 as a CSBM, the successes and failures of the implementation of this document, and consultation mechanisms for risk reduction.
