DUSHANBE, June 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Prosecutor-General’s Office completed investigation into a case of four persons, including two OMON (Tajik police special unit), who are charged with assaulting the “Pamir” Casino in Roudaki district and the case moved to the Supreme Court on June 1.

The defendants that were members of an organized criminal ring are also suspected of having committed a number of other serious crimes, the source at the Prosecutor-General’s Office said.

Four members of this organize criminal group, including two officers from the police special unit, are currently standing trial.

As it had been reported earlier, three members of this ring, including two OMON officers Ravshan Homidov and Rohir Rahimov as well as unemployed Khurshed Islomov, were detained in Dushanbe on February 24.  Later, another member of this criminal group, unemployed Abdukhalil Fattoyev, was detained.  The ringleader Tavakkalkhouja Nizomov, who is an officer with the main border directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), managed to escape and he is currently wanted by police.

Members of this group are suspected of having committed a number of grave crimes in the territory of the country, including the assault on the “Pamir” Casino in the Oq Qurghon jamoat in Roudaki district.  A group of armed persons in masks broke into the casino on February 14 and seized some 40,000 U.S. dollars.
