Kazakh Minister of Economy and Mineral Resources Sauat Mynbayev has opened the second National conference “Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in Kazakhstan” (EITI) on June 2 in Astana.

“Kazakhstan has been introducing the EITI aimed at provision of the transparency between the extracting companies and the government since 2005,” Mynbayev said.

“Today 110 companies of the republic, 66 of which are from oil and gas industry and 44 – ore mining, signed the EITI Memo,” the Minister added.

The process of validation on the EITI was discussed at the conference. The representative of the EITI International Secretariat expressed hope that Kazakhstan will become an example for other countries in the issue of abidance by the criteria and principles of the validation process on the EITI.
