DUSHANBE, June 4, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Police officers yesterday seized more than 25 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

An operation carried out by police in Khatlon’s Shuroobod district led to the arrest of local resident Bobosho Sharipov.  15.705 kilograms of raw opium were confiscated from him.

The same day, resident of the northern city of Chkalovsk, Abduqahhor Mavlonov, was detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.  Some 10 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Sharipov and Mavlonov and investigation is under way.

Over the first four months of this year, Tajik law enforcement authorities have seized more than 1,500 kilograms of narcotics.  A total included 351 kilograms of heroin, 217 kilograms of raw opium and some 980 kilograms of cannabis.
