DUSHANBE, June 10, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The first consignment of humanitarian aid provided by the Russian government to Tajikistan for disaster-hit area was airlifted by transport plane of the Russian emergencies ministry to Dushanbe yesterday, according to the Russian embassy in Dushanbe.

Another plane with humanitarian aid on board is expected to arrive in Dushanbe on the night of June 10-11.

Some 21 million Russian rubles worth of the assistance, totaling 66.5 tons, includes 10 tons of canned meat, 70 tents Pamir-30, four mobile generators, some 2,500 square meters of window glasses and 2,500 blankets.

Russian Ambassador Yuri Popov noted that Russia also provided humanitarian aid to Tajikistan through international organizations.  A humanitarian operation on delivery of more than 9,500 tons of wheat flour (122 train cars) to Tajikistan, which is contribution of the Russian Federation to the UN World Food Program (WFP), is going on.
