DUSHANBE, June 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Over the first five months of this year, Tajikistan has produced a total of little more than 2.06 billion somoni worth of industrial goods, according to the State Committee for Statistics.

Compared to the January-May 2008 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods over the report period has amounted to 87 percent.

Industrial goods worth 1.34 billion somoni have been delivered in January-May 2009, or 96.7 percent of the volume of products manufactured.

Over the same five-month period, 422 enterprises (53.3 percent) have exceeded the January-May 2008 production level.  In January-May 2009, 153 enterprises, or 19.3 percent of the overall number (791), have stood idle.

In May 2009, there were 282 enterprises (35.6 percent) that were not in operation.  Among them are large enterprises such as closed joint-stock company (CJSC) TojIron, open joint-stock company (OJSC) Distillery, OJSC Tajikkabel (cable production), OJSC Energoremont, JV Kabool Tajik Textiles, etc.
