Miklos Haraszti, Representative on Freedom of the Media of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, calls Kyrgyz authorities to stop the series of attacks on journalists, the OSCE reported.

Haraszti believes that the attacks on representatives of mass media pose threats to pluralism shortly before presidential election in Kyrgyzstan. “Kyrgyz journalists were severely assaulted lately while two of the attacks were committed during the last month. The greater part of the cases, registered in 2009, remained uninvestigated,” he wrote in a letter to the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Kadyrbek Sarbaev.

Miklos Haraszti asked the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry to provide information on investigation of the attack cases.

As to OSCE, it was already the third request of the representative on freedom of the media to the foreign policy department of Kyrgyzstan.
