DUSHANBE, June 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  — In Tajikistan, inflation for January-May this year stood at 2 percent, according to the State Committee for Statistics.

Over the report period, a monthly inflation rate in consumer’s sector has amounted to 0.4 percent, which is 1.0 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.

Prices of food products rose 1.0 percent in five months to May 31.  Prices of nonfoods and paid service rendered to the population have risen over the report period 1.4 percent and 7.5 percent respectively.

We will recall that the government expects inflation for this year to stand at 12 percent.  It is to be noted that by the end of last year, inflation stood at 11.8 percent, while experts expected it to stand at 8 percent.

Meanwhile, according to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics, the cost of the set of food products included in the consumer basket for actual consumption (based on figures from households studied during 2008) in prices as of the end of May 2009 was 97.22 somoni per one family member per month, and with the norm for a balanced diet it was 189.07 somoni.
