KHOROG, June 25, 2009, Asia-Plus  — According to the GBAO agency for statistics, prices of some basic food products in Gorno Badakhshan rose some 20 percent in the year to June 2009.

The price for a 50-kilogram sack of grade 1 wheat flour at Khorog’s central bazaar is now 110 somoni.

Prices of other food products have increased as well.  The price of one liter of vegetable oil in Khorog is currently 9.00 somoni, one liter of cooking (cotton) oil now costs 10.00 somoni, one kilogram of rice – 7.00 somoni, one kilogram of sugar – 5.00 somoni, and one kilogram of dried milk – 20 to 22 somoni.

Prices of industrial goods in the region have also risen 20 percent over the report period.

Prices of agricultural products in Gorno Badakhshan rose more than 10 percent in the year to June 2009.  Potatoes, onions and carrots currently cost 2.00 to 2.50 somoni per one kilogram.  The price of one kilogram of cucumbers is now 5.00 somoni, tomatoes now cost 7.00 somoni per kilogram, cabbages – up to 3.00 somoni.  The price of one kilogram of beef is now 13 somoni and the price of kilogram of lamb is 14 somoni.
