DUSHANBE, June 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon today afternoon visited the Spitamen district as part of his working visit to Sughd province, according to presidential press service.

In Spitamen, Rahmon attended an opening ceremony of the service center at open joint-stock company (OJSC) Sughdagroserv (SAS).

SAS’s service center has been established in cooperation with local farming unit, Sharq.  The center will provide farms with seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, spare parts for agricultural machines and equipment, etc.  A total cost of the project is 800,000 somoni.15 people currently work for the center at an average monthly wage of 600-650 somoni.

The president charged the center’s specialists to provide farmers with watermelon seeds as demand for watermelons has increased from year to year, the press service said  

The agribusiness company Sughdagroserv provides financial, marketing, retail and other services to farmers, manufacturers, and cotton and other agricultural processing firms along the entire chain of the agricultural process. The company operates primarily in rural areas, helping to promote increased income for local farmers by creating opportunities for independent production and commercial farm activity.

Rahmon also inaugurated a two-story domestic service center, Fayz, in Spitamen Thursday afternoon,

The center was constructed by local entrepreneur Khairullo Ubaidulloyev.   A total cost of the project is 960,000 somoni.  The center has sewing workshop that has created jobs for more than 50 local women.

During his meetings with district administrators and local residents, Rahmon pointed to the necessity of creating new jobs in Spitamen.  Proceeding from this, he charged local authorities to complete construction of the spinning mill, Spitamen-Textiles, before the end of this year.  The enterprise is expected to create some 160 new jobs for local residents.

Both ethnic Tajks and ethnic Uzbeks live in the Spitamen district and President Rahmon called on them to keep principles of neighborliness and mutual respect to traditions and rituals of each other.  He noted that the Tajik government would do all in its power to promote development of culture, education and traditions of Uzbek-speaking population of Tajikistan.
