DUSHANBE, June 30, Asia-Plus — Ms. Martina Kessof (phonetically spelled), Director of the Criminal Investigation Department within the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt or BKA) of Germany and Ms. Sonia Walter, Chief Commissioner, Criminal Investigation Department within the German Federal Criminal Police Office, arrived in Dushanbe on June 28 for a working visit, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The purpose of the visit is for them to discuss with Tajik law enforcement authorities the holding of international conference for chiefs of law enforcement and security services from Central Asia’s states in Dushanbe in November this year.  Director of the German Federal Criminal Police Office Jorg Ziercke is expected to attend the conference, the source said.

The BKA-initiated conference will consider issues related to establishment and expansion of cooperation between the Central Asian law enforcement and security services and mutual exchange of experience.  Taking into consideration regional features of Central Asia, the German Criminal Police Office suggests that subjects such as the fight against drug-trafficking crime, international terrorism and organized crime should also be considered at the conference.

During their stay in Tajikistan, the BKA senior representatives are scheduled to hold talks with heads of Tajik law enforcement agencies to discuss the conference-organizing issues, the source said.

The Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (Bundeskriminalamt or BKA) is the national investigative police agency of Germany and falls directly under the Federal Ministry of Interior.
