DUSHANBE, July 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — A roundtable meeting formally titled “Media under Conditions of Financial Crisis” has opened at Tajik Journalists’ Union in Dushanbe today morning.

Organized by Tajik Journalists’ Union and the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF-Tajikistan), the meeting has brought together representatives of electronic and print media from all regions of the country to discuss issues related to mitigation of effects of the global financial crisis on Tajik media and strategy of supporting media under conditions of the crisis.

The Tajik Journalists’ union head, Mr. Akbarali Sattorov, said that the meeting was expected to result in adoption of an appeal to the government, calling for supporting local media during the crisis.  Tajik media are also supposed to set up anti-crisis committee of journalists of Tajikistan.
