DUSHANBE, July 3, 2009, Asia-Plus — For five days, twenty representatives of the Border Force, the Customs Service, the Phyto-Sanitarian and the Veterinary Control Services working at airports in Tajikistan participated in an Integrated Border Management (IBM) awareness and capacity building training workshop, organized with the support of the EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) assistance program, according to the Delegation of the European Commission in Tajikistan.
Experts from the European Union, together with local trainers, provided training on IBM methodologies and assessed the daily operations of border control agencies working at airports with the aim to improve operational and technical capabilities of border staff.
This workshop is a follow up of two regional Training-of-Trainers courses held last autumn in 2008 when 20 trainers from border agencies from all five Central Asian countries were trained in Bishkek and Almaty on modern IBM training methods as well as the use of the “IBM Training Manual” developed by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
Within the framework of the EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance program, the European Union helps foster institutional reform in border management, provides training opportunities in Central Asia, and helps to improve the infrastructure along the trade and transit corridors in Central Asia.
The EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP. ICMPD is a sub-contractor to UNDP in the BOMCA Program.
