DUSHANBE, July 8, 2009, Asia-Plus — In January-June 2009, 6,806 crimes have been reported in Tajikistan, which is 7.5 percent more than in the same period of last year, Prosecutor-General Bobojon Bobokhonov announced at press conference in Dushanbe on July 7.
Compared to January-June 2009 there was a 6.3 percent increase in the number of reported grave crimes, Tajik chief prosecutor said.
The number of reported cases involving illegally bearing, possessing, acquiring, and manufacturing weapons has increased by more than 85 percent. 23 such crimes have been reported over the report period against 15 cases reported in the first half-year of 2008. In the meantime, the number of reported killings has decreased by 10 percent.
Over the first six months of this year, prosecutors have conducted more than 3,000 inspections that allowed reimbursing losses in an amount of 78 million somoni and 45,000 U.S. dollars, Bobokhonov said.
