KULOB, August 26, 2009, Asia-Plus — Since the beginning of this year, the microlending organization, Imdodi Khutal, in Khatlon’s Vose district has provided 1,289,188 somoni in loans to 1,380 local residents, Abdukarim Nematov the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

He noted that microlending organizations played a significant role in providing loans to people in Khatlon’s Kulob zone.

According to him, two other microlending organizations – Saydahmad in the Kulob district and Pakhtaobod in Vose – have provided 950,536 and 545,878 somoni in loans respectively.

“In all, nine microlending organizations now function in the Kulob zone and they have provided loans for a total amount of 3,586,553 somoni local population since the beginning of this year,” Nematov said, noting that local microlending organizations have been set up over the past two-three years.
