DUSHANBE, September 4, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Indian President Pratibha Patil will arrive in Tajikistan for an official three-day visit on September 6.

According to some Indian media, it will be the first-ever visit by an Indian president to the Central Asian region.

During her three-day stay in Dushanbe, President Patil is scheduled to meet Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon and a number of other high-ranking Tajik state officials. 

M&C quoted Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao as saying, “The visit is an opportunity for reaffirming bilateral ties at the highest political level which will also give an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.” 

In the meantime, Mr. Wilson Baboo, Second Secretary, Indian Embassy in Dushanbe, said that President Patil was also scheduled to visit the city of Kulob to see the sights of the city.

A conference with participation of representatives from business communities of the two countries will be held in Dushanbe during President Patil’s visit to Tajikistan.

“Some 40 entrepreneurs representing Indian pharmaceutical, textile and power industries as well as agrarian, transport and communications sectors of the country will accompany President Patil on her visit to Tajikistan,” Indian diplomat said.
