DUSHANBE, September 25, 2009, Asia-Plus  – A gas explosion damaged a part of an apartment in multi-story residential building in Dushanbe Thursday evening, injuring one person.

The gas blast occurred in one of apartment buildings at the Saadi Sherozi Street in Dushanbe’s Sino district.  “The explosion destroyed a part of the apartment and seriously damaged three other apartments,” the source at the Ministry of Interior (Said), noting that the blast was caused by safety violations.

It is to be noted that accidents involving gas happen quite often in Tajikistan, which is still struggling to upgrade ageing infrastructure and raise safety standards.
