KHOORG, October 22, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first nine months of this year, 22 suicides and five suicide attempts have been reported in Gorno Badakhshan, which nearly three times more than in the same period of last year, Nosirkhouja Dodokhonov, a prosecutor with the investigation department of the GBAO prosecutor’s office, said.
According to him, 11 suicides have been reported in the Roshtqala district alone.
“Inspections by the regional prosecutor’s office have shown that most of those who have committed suicide this year were motivated mainly by social and economic problems; thus, 18 of them were unemployed,” the prosecutor said.
