DUSHANBE, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — Ties of strategic partnership link Tajikistan to the Russian Federation and Tajikistan is interested in further expansion of bilateral cooperation.
President Emomali Rahmon remarked this during a meeting with staff teaching and students from M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University that was held in Moscow on October 23 on sidelines of President Rahmon’s sate visit to Russia, according to presidential press service.
“There are no issues in bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Russia that could not be solved through constructive dialogue and such a dialogue was established beginning from the first days of our independent development,” Tajik leader said.
Energy complex is an engine for sustainable development: Tajikistan is rich in water and power resources and it would not be exaggeration to say that efficient and rational use of them will be a reliable foundation of economic growth of the whole Central Asian region, he noted.
“Russia is in the first place in terms of the overall volume of foreign direct investments in economic projects in Tajikistan and last year, it accounted for more than a half of all investments coming to Tajikistan,” said Rahmon, “However, we are not going to stop at what has been accomplished. We and Russian leadership have joint large plans and we jointly work on implementation of them.”
“Tajikistan and Russia are important political partners and we are interested in keeping all positive that had been accumulated during our common history,” Tajik president stated.
