DUSHANBE, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first nine months of this year, Tajik national carrier, Tajik Air, has got a net profit of some 24 million somoni, the deputy director general of Tajik Air, Qudratullo Qurbonov, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe today.
According to him, the national air carrier has transferred 44.7 million somoni of tax money to the public purse over the report period.
Over the same nine-month period, Tajik Air accounted for 48.5 percent of the overall volumes of Tajikistan’s air traffic, which is 2.1 percent more than in the same period of last year.
In January-September this year, Tajik Air has carried more than 303,000 passengers serving international routes, which is 4 percent more than in the same period of 2008, Qurbonov said. Serving domestic routes, Tajik Air has carried more than 124,000 passengers over the report period, which is 20,900 passengers more than in January-September 2008.
Over the report period, Tajik national air carrier has shipped 1,212 tons of cargo, which is 39.9 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.
Tajik Air official added that they planned to open air routes from Dushanbe to Kiev (Ukraine) and New Delhi (India) in the near future.
Asked about reopening of the air route from Dushanbe to Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Qurbonov said that the sides had singed all necessary documents that should be approved at the level of the governments of the two countries.
