DUSHANBE, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus  – Saydullo Khairulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today met with the U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan, Kenneth E. Gross.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said that in the course of the talks, Tajik speaker had expressed satisfaction with the present level of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, noting that Tajik MPs had visited the United States Senate twice and got acquainted with work of their U.S. collages.

For his part, Mr. Gross noted that his country highly appraised Tajikistan’s role in combating modern challenges and threats such as terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking and would do all in its power to help Tajikistan tackle those problems.

The sides also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and ways to solve the Afghan problems, the spokesman said.
