DUSHANBE, November 5, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s power plants now generates 38-40 million kWh of electricity per day, which is 3-3.5 million kWh more than in the same period last year, Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, told Asia-Plus today.

“Neighboring countries have not yet started electricity deliveries to Tajikistan that has forced us to cut off electricity to some districts of the country at certain time of day,” Yodgori said.

According to him, this measure does not mean that electricity rationing has been introduced in the country.

“In some districts subordinate to the center, there have been problems with electricity supplies to residential customers and enterprises in connection with construction of a 500-kilovolt power line South-North,” the spokesman said, noting that negotiations between Tajik and Uzbek power engineering specialists on the beginning of Turkmen electricity deliveries to Tajikistan via Uzbek power system are still going on in Tashkent

“Simultaneously, our delegation is conducting negotiations in Tashkent on the beginning of the supply of Uzbek electric power to Tajikistan in autumn-winter period,” Yodgori noted.

Besides, Barqi Tojik is currently conducting negotiations on the supply if electricity to Tajikistan from southern Kazakhstan.

Yodgori added that current water levels at the reservoir powering the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) were at the level of 904 meters above sea level, which is 10 meters higher than in the same period of last year.
