DUSHANBE, November 13, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Mini-Dublin Group (MDG) for Central Asia met in Dushanbe yesterday to discuss issues related to coordination of the drug control cooperation in the region, according to the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press service.
The meeting, presided over by Italian Ambassador to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Mr. Giovanni Ricciulli, discussed the current drug situation and measures taken by Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in the framework of the drug control policy and cooperation between members of the Mini-Dublin Group and the governments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The meeting participants included chiefs of diplomatic missions and representatives of embassies of Afghanistan, the Czech Republic, France, German, Poland, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uzbekistan as well as representatives from BOMCA/CADAP and UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia. Tajikistan was represented by the drug control chief Rustam Nazarov.
During the meeting, it was noted that real results in combating drug trafficking and drug-related criminal business could be got only through joint efforts of the governments of Central Asia’s states, international organizations and international community.
The meeting resulted in adoption of recommendations on providing thorough assistance to competent services of Tajikistan for improvement of their potentials, strengthening and expansion of international cooperation in fighting illicit drug trafficking, the press service said.
The Mini-Dublin Group consists of various embassies that are interested in narcotics issues in the Central Asian region.
