DUSHANBE, November 16, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Interior Ministry directorate for combating organized crime marked its 20th anniversary on November 16, 2009.

Since the beginning of this year, Tajik police’s directorate for combating organized crime has solved 804 crimes, including nine murders, nine cases of banditry, three cases of participation in illegal armed formations, six hostage-taking cases, 12 cases of participation in criminal grouping, 23 weapon-trafficking cases, and 20 drug-trafficking cases.

Over the report period, officers from the directorate for combating organized crime have seized 70 firearms and 237 kilograms of narcotics, including 66 kilograms of heroin and 163 kilograms of marijuana, the source at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said, noting that 63 Tajik police officers have been killed in the fight against organized crime and terrorism since the directorate was established in 1989.

The directorate for combating organize crime was founded in Tajikistan on November 16, 1989 and the first chief of the Tajik MoI directorate for combating organized crime was Guldastasho Imronshoyev.
