QURGHON Teppa, November 26, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Since the beginning of this year, four criminal proceedings have been instituted against parents prohibiting their children from attending school in Khatlon’s Qumsangir district, Asia-Plus has learned from Ilhom Safarov, the chief of service for prevention of violation of rights of minors within the Qumsangir police department.

According to him, four such cases were instituted in the district last year as well.

“This year, the commission for protection of child’s rights at the district administration has received 13 cases regarding prohibition by parents of their 14-15-year-old children, primarily girls, from attending school,” said Safarov, “We have held some 110 meetings with local residents on involving children in education this year.”

Five special raids by officers from the service for prevention of violation of rights of minors on public places in the district have revealed that some 50 children of different age in Qumsangir do not attend school, he said.

Safarov added that two crimes involving minors have bee registered in Qumsangir this year.
