KULOB, December 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — Fourteen new cases of HIV infection were detected in Khatlon’s Kulob zone in November alone, the Kulob AIDS Center director Tohir Tumonov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, these 14 newly detected cases brought the number of people living with HIV in the Kulob zone to 217; 175 of them are men.

165 officially registered HIV sufferers are residents of the city of Kulob.  Injecting drug users constitute 60 percent of the overall number of HIV sufferers in the region, Tumonov said.
