DUSHANBE, December 26, 2009, Asia-Plus — The ninth two-day session of the Tajik-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission resulted on December 25 in signing of a protocol on making amendments to the Tajik-Kyrgyz mutual land grant agreement of May 18, 2005.
The commission, co-chaired by Tajik Minister of transport and Communications Olimjon Boboyev and his Kyrgyz counterpart Nurlan Suleymanov, took place in the Kyrgyz southern city of Osh.
We will recall that 15 heads and senior representatives of branch ministries and organizations and heads of industrial enterprises representing Tajikistan at the meeting, which considered state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two nations in different fields.
The meeting, in particular, is discussing mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in sectors like energy, industry, and transport. Border cooperation was also one of major topics of the meeting. The meeting participants also considered bilateral cooperation on social protection of the population, labor relations and migration as well as education. The next 10th session of the Tajik-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission will take lace in Tajikistan in 2010.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan, the commission ordered chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries to consider the possibility of holding a conference with participation of representatives of business communities of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The commission also charged relevant ministries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to consider the possibility of the supply of products of Kyrgyz enterprises (cement, packing board, natural stone products) to Tajikistan and conclusion of long-term contracts on the delivery of antimony concentrates from Tajikistan’s Anzob Ore Refinery to Kyrgyzstan’s Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSK) Kadamzhay Antimony Plant.
As far as the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector is concerned, the sides expressed interest in implementation of the project for construction of power transmission facility though which power will be supplied to the third countries via Kyrgyz and Tajik power systems for the purpose of working out a single concerted policy on the issue of construction of a 500 kV power transmission line Khujand-Datka-Kemin-Almaty within the framework of the CASA-1000 project, the Kyrgyz ministry said.
The delegations also ordered their civilian aviation authorities to consider the possibility of launching an air route Bishkek-Dushanbe-Delhi that would be operated by the Kyrgyz airline, Kyrgyzstan.
The sides also expressed interest in implementation of joint projects for rehabilitation and development of automobile and rail links.
Taking into consideration Point 2 of a Joint Statement by the Presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan of May 16 2008, the sides ordered local authorities of the two countries to prohibit all kinds of construction in border areas until delimitation and demarcation of common border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is completed.
