KHOROG, January 27, 2010, Asia-Plus  — 38 candidates have been nominated to compete for 30 seats in the Khorog legislature (City Majlis).

Tohirbek Shodmonbekov, chairman of Khorog city electoral commission, told Asia-Plus today that the commission has received documents of 38 candidates nominated for election to the Khorog legislature.

According to him, the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) has nominated its candidates in all 30 constituencies, while the Communist Party (CPT) has nominated five candidates and the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) has nominated only one candidate.  “Beside, there are two self-propelled candidates,” Shodmonbekov said.

In the meantime, organizations of the Social-Democratic (SDPT), Democratic (DPT) and Agrarian (APT) parties in the region did not use the right of nominating their candidates to run for election to the Khorog legislature, he added.
