QURGHON TEPPA, February 27, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) Office in Tajikistan has presented a number of its projects in the Rumi district, Khatlon province.

Safovuddin Jabborov, program specialist, JICA Tajikistan, said that a number of implemented and planned projects for enhancement of Tajikistan’s health sector and construction of roads as well as training of personnel for different spheres were presented.

“Every year, some 100 Tajik specialists working in different sectors are taking training courses in Japan,” said Jabborov, “Those who took our training courses have an opportunity to offer their projects and get grants for implementation of them on the basis of experience they obtained during the training courses.”

Sohibnazar Turkov, deputy head of the Republican Immunization, noted that in 2009, JICA provided their center with vaccines for a total of 1.533 million somoni.  “JICA also provided a vehicle for delivering vaccines to the regions,” said he.  “Under an agreement between the governments of Tajikistan and Japan, such assistance will be provided until 2015.” 

Ms. Barno Yangiboyeva, director of the Center for Integrated Management of Childhood Diseases, noted that JICA has supported their childhood diseases prevention project.

“JICA financed our project in 2005-2009 and following our proposal the project has been extended till 2013 and it will be supported by JICA,” she said, noting that the Center has its affiliates in all regions of the country: 11 in Sughd; 26 in Khatlon; 8 in Gorno Badakhshan; and 13 in districts subordinate to the center.  “Under the project, JICA provided the Center with medicines for preventing childhood diseases and these medicines are distributed free of charge.”
