DUSHANBE, February 27, 2010, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon today received members of the CIS election observation mission, led by the CIC Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, according to presidential press service.

The sides discussed issues related to preparations for the February 28 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan.

Lebedev noted that 160 CIS observers arrived in Tajikistan n February 4.  According to him, the election campaign was held in accordance with Tajikistan’s parliamentary lection code and in compliance with the Convention on Standards of Democratic Elections adopted by the CIS member nations in Chisinau in 2002.

President Rahmon, for his part, noted that the country’s government had undertaken all efforts to ensure holding of transparent and democratic elections.

In the course of the talks, the sides also discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation within the framework of CIS.
