DUSHANBE, March 10, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Uzbekistan has completed a 500-kV power transmission line, Novoagren-Uzbekistanskaya, which allows supplying electricity to the Ferghana district and the south of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan’s Russian-language newspaper,

Pravda Vostoka

, reported.

Uzbekistan constructed this 170-kilometer power transmission line bypassing Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.  Consumers in Ferghana Valley had previously received electricity via power systems of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

To remove force majeure, in particular, accidents, Uzbek specialists had to undergo various permit procedures to cross the border in order to carry out repair work on the territories of the countries; all this required considerable expense and time, the newspaper said.

Pravda Vostoka

notes that the power transmission line was constructed in difficult conditions around 2,500 meters above sea level.
