DUSHANBE, March 12, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Customs officers seized approximately one kilogram of heroin at the Dushanbe airport on March 11, the source at the Customs Service told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon.

An inspection of passengers on the Dushanbe-Yekaterinburg (Russia) flight found a package of heroin weighing 995 grams hidden in a suitcase belonging to the 51-year-old Sh.Z. who has the previous conviction for illegal possession of weapons and was released under the last amnesty law.

The transportation prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against the drug peddler and an investigation is under way.

The same day, officers from the Kulob police department detained local resident, 30-year-old I.Sh.  110 grams of marijuana were confiscated from him.  According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the preliminary investigation has established that he bought the narcotic drug from the 40-year-old O.O.  “When searching house of O.O., police officers found anther 650 grams of marijuana,” the source at a MoI said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against I.Sh. and O.O. and an investigation is under way.
