DUSHANBE, March 12, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The Government of Japan extends grants, totaling some 189,000 U.S. dollars, for construction of mini hydropower plants in Rasht and Roshtqala districts, according to the Ministry of energy and Industries (MoEI).

The source at a MoEI says the projects are supported under Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

95,500 U.S. dollars are granted for construction of 120 kW mini hydropower plant in the Hoit jamoat of the Rasht district.  Besides, the grant will also support increasing capacity of the mini hydropower plant built by local residents from 17 to 35 kW.  Upon completion of the project, public institutions will get access to the regular supply.

The Government of Japan allocates 92,900 U.S. dollars for construction of a 400kW hydropower plant in the Tusyon jamoat of Roshtqala district, Gorno Badakhshan.  The plant will allow providing with electricity the Barmev and Shos areas as well, the source said.
