DUSHANBE, March 16, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Deputy chairmen of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s power chamber of parliament) as well as heads of the lower house committees and commissions were elected at the first sitting of the first session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that took place on March 16.

The procedure for electing deputy chairmen of the Majlisi Namoyandagon is determined by the Reglament of the Majlis.

MP Amirsho Miraliyev, formerly head of President’s Executive Office, was elected the first deputy chairman and MP Mirgand  Shabozov, formerly head of the State Committee for Statistics, and MP Nazira Ghafforova, formerly director of the Civil Servants Training Institute under the President of Tajikistan, were elected deputy chairpersons.

MP Mahmadali Vatanov was elected to head the Committee on Legislation and Human Rights, MP Shermuhammad Shohiyon was appointed chairman of the Committee on Law and Order, Defense and Security, MP Safarali Rajabali was appointed chairman of Committee on Economics and Finance, MP Safarali Rajabov was appointed to head the Committee on Strengthening State Institutional Capacity and Local Government, MP Said Yoqubzod, formerly Minister of Land Reclamation and Water Resources, was elected chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Ecology, MP Olim Salimzoda was appointed chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Public Associations and Information.

Besides, MP Marhabo Jabborova was elected chairwoman of the Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy, MP Khairinisso Yusufi was appointed chairwoman of the Committee on Health, Family and Social Affairs, and MP Amir Katayev was elected chairman of the Committee on Energy, Industry and Construction.

MP Azizmat Emomov was elected to head the Parliamentary Ethics Commission and Davlatali Davlatzoda was elected the Commission for Organizational Issues.

It is to be noted that all deputy chairmen as well as committee and commission heads are members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party.
