DUSHANBE, March 16, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Over the first two months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 527.2 million U.S. dollars, which was 95.6 percent of the January-February 2009 level or 24.5 million U.S. dollars fewer, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to 136.8 million US dollars.

According to the Agency for Statistic, exports of goods in January-February 2010 amounted to 195.3 million US dollars, which was 62.1 percent, or 74.8 million U.S. dollars, more than in the same period last year.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period amounted to 331.9 million US dollars, which was 23 percent, or 99.3 million dollars, fewer than in January-February 2009.

Compared to January 2010, exports and imports last month decreased by 1.4 percent and 2.5 percent respectively.

In January-February 2010, Tajikistan had trade relations with 70 countries of the world, including 10 CIS states.  Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 41.1 percent (216.8 million dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 58.9 percent (310.4 million dollars) of the country’s external trade turnover.
