KHOROG, March 19, 2010, Asia-Plus – Officers from the GBAO counternarcotics directorate have warded off an attempt of smuggling a large among of drugs into the region.
The GBAO drug control chief Marodasein Aliyorov told Asia-Plus that Afghan national Aszizamamad waladi Shekhmamad was detained near the village of Yomj in the Shugnan district yesterday when he was illegally crossing the border river. 16 kilograms of narcotics, including one kilogram of heroin and 15 kilograms of hashish, were confiscated from him.
Aliyorov noted that local drug control officers have seized more than 18 kilograms of narcotics since the beginning of this year.
