KULOB, April 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — 15,086,826 U.S. dollars have been remitted to banks in the Kulob zone of Khatlon province over the first three months of this year, which is some 7 million U.S. dollars more than in the same period last year, Abdukarim Nematov, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the volumes of euro and Russian ruble (RR) remittances to the area have also increased compared to January-March 2009.

“Over the first quarter of this year, labor migrants have remitted 180,951,316 Russian rubles to local banks, which is 92 million rubles more than in the same period of 2009.  The euro remittances have increased by €5,000 compared to January-March 2009.”
